General German Language Course

All courses build on the 4 fundamentals: listening, writing, reading and speaking. Free class discussions, role-playing and conversation help develop verbal expression, vocabulary and good sentence structure.

Grammar is not studied in isolation, rather it is packed in informative and stimulating texts that provide valuable cultural, political and historical background. Some topics covered include: relationships, social life, jobs and labour, history of Germany, cultural identity.

The German course at International House Kharkiv is fun, and practical lessons will help you get to grips with German quickly whether you are studying for business or pleasure.

Our experienced teachers will help you to quickly gain confidence using German. Learning in small groups of no more than 12 students, you will explore the language using conversational practice, internet resources, TV programmes and audio resources to really bring the language to life.

Course objectives

• conversational German, which allows you to actually speak and understand the language;
• the rules of German grammar, which gives you the confidence of knowing that you master the language;
• reading comprehension, which enables you to get the gist as well as the details of increasingly complicated texts and expands your vocab range;
• writing texts in German, so that you can test what you have learnt and see the progress that you have made.

On completing this course you will have:

• increased your oral fluency
• learned “real” German using the latest course books and materials such as DVDs, newspapers and the internet
• widened your range of active vocabulary
• developed better listening skills
• improved your writing, pronunciation and reading
• developed learning strategies for the future

Course content

We aim to help you improve your communication skills in a wide range of situations. To do this, the course follows a course book and your teacher will use real-life situations and topics to make your learning personal to you. The idea is to help your understanding as much as possible.

During the course you will:

• work with other students to develop your communication skills by engaging in activities such as role-plays, pair work, group work and class discussions
• learn, review and consolidate new language everyday
• learn how to become a more effective learner
• get regular homework to help you review and check your understanding of what you have learned in class
• complete can-do statements to track your progress

Certification

At the end of the course you will receive an International House Kharkiv Certificate documenting your language level.
